Moraine Lake Sunrise Elopement
When I first starting chatting with Alex about her and Mike’s elopement, I noticed immediately that they were passionate about the outdoors. They wanted to incorporate as much of the outdoors as possible into their wedding day, and I loved it of course. Back home they spend most of their spare time camping, fly fishing, and hiking with their pups. (Mike even brought his fishing gear and soon after we left was sending us photos of the fish he caught). What a guy! So when a couple loves the outdoors that much, a trip to Canada for their dream adventure elopement was the perfect plan.
Mike + Alex travelled all the way from the Colorado Rockies to say their I do’s in the Canadian Rockies. They knew that Moraine Lake would be their spot to share their vows, specifically at sunrise. If you haven’t witnessed a sunrise at Moraine Lake, you need to. It is pure magic. The sun slowly rises over the valley, then casts a mighty glow on the mountain peaks. It is truly breathtaking, so I can see why Mike + Alex chose this to be their backdrop.
My husband Logan and I camped out in Lake Louise the night before the elopement, and in the wee hours of the morning we started the drive from Lake Louise to Moraine Lake. The morning began with hair and makeup in the sweetest cabin at Moraine Lake Lodge, and pretty soon when it was time for Alex to put her dress on, the boys ventured out to the little spot where they would exchange their vows. I think we can all agree that Alex is the most stunning bride, and watching Mike’s eyes light up when he turned around to see his pretty lady brought tears to my eyes. As they exchanged their vows along the lake, it was almost as if time stood still. After they exchanged rings and shared a kiss, people passing by literally stopped in their tracks to give their congratulations to the newly weds. Later in the afternoon after Mike + Alex had changed out of their wedding attire, we hiked to the beautiful Consolation Lakes to capture the two of them in their element – walking hand in hand in their hiking boots (more of that to come). What. A. Day.
This was one of the sweetest, most intimate celebrations I have been a part of, and capturing these moments was a true honour. My hope is that the love these two have for each other is evident in these photos, and that you feel the raw and real emotion that I felt on their day.
Mike + Alex, thank you for trusting me to capture your special day. It is a day I will never forget.
